Employment laws have recently changed. From 1 July 2023:
- Minimum award rates will increase by 5.75%.
- The national minimum wage will increase to $882.80 per week or $23.23 per hour.
- Superannuation will increase from 10.5% to 11%.
For existing employees on minimum award rates, you will need to increase the rates by a minimum by 5.75% from 1 July 2023 to avoid an underpayment. For example, a qualified casual dental assistant on level 4 will change from a minimum hourly rate of $ 30.95 to a minimum of $ 32.73. Please be mindful of assessing the award level to ensure correct classifications. Forgetting or failing to move employees to the next classification when warranted, may also result in an underpayment. Please contact us if you need assistance with classifications or rates.
For ClinLegal members, we will update the links to pay guides on our App to make it easier for you to identify the correct rates. Please ensure that you check the current minimum rates before preparing contracts for your new employees. If you are in anyway unsure, please reach out to us.
Employers will also need to increase superannuation payments from 10.5% to 11%, from 1 July 2023.
